Health Care Reform

The health care reform law signed by President Obama on March 23, 2010, provides many opportunities for dietitians to be included in programs and demonstration projects scheduled for implementation in the states over the next three years and beyond.

Your NDA board, and specifically your state regulatory specialist (Deborah Klein) and state policy representative (Pam Wagner), will make every effort to keep you informed on this important topic.

Congratulations! We have Licensure!!

This is a great day for dietitians in the state of Nevada. With the focus on preventative care and increase in reimbursement for nutrition counseling as well as defining scope of practice for dietitians this bill identifies dietitians as those that have the "skill, expertise and knowledge" to do the job. This is awesome! Thanks to everyone for their support and efforts to let our legislators know what this bill was about and why it was important! Governor Sandoval signed our bill into law and it is official.

The Licensure Committee is working on details of the regulations for implementing the bill with a goal of January 1, 2012. Stay tuned for more details as well as informational meetings in Las Vegas and Reno.

Public Policy

Pam Wagner, State Policy Representative and Heather Graham Williams, Public Policy Coordinator recently attended the Public Policy Workshop in Washington DC. They discussed key food, nutrition and health policies with staff members from Nevada Senators Ensign and Reid. Specifically, the reauthorization of the Older Americans Act.
